School Lunches

School Lunch and Snack Times

Children in the Early Years Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 are provided with a fruit or vegetable snack each day.  Pupils in Key Stage 2  can bring in a healthy snack for playtime but this should not be sweets, biscuits, chocolate or crisps or contain nuts.

Drinking water is available throughout the day for all children.

Hot meals are available for £2.50 per day.  Meals can be ordered weekly or termly in advance online via Parentpay.

The school’s catering service is provided by Harrison Catering Services, an independent, family-owned company.  Whenever possible, Harrisons link their menus to the school’s curriculum and activities to further reinforce the importance of eating a balanced diet of nutritious food.

Meals are freshly prepared to order and served from our on-site kitchen.  We eat together at the table with “table monitors” at each end of the table.  Children collect their main meal from the servery and accompaniments, such as bread, salads, and vegetables, etc. are served at the table. Adults also supervise in the dining room during lunchtimes.

Free School Meals

All children in Reception, Year 1, and Year 2 can receive school meals at no cost to you. This is a universal entitlement for all infant aged children.  In addition, every child whose parent is receiving one of the welfare benefits listed will be eligible for Pupil Premium funding. This is extra money for the school, provided by the government, to pay for targeted support for learning.

Entitlement to Free School Meals for children in school in Year 3 and above is not universal.  You will need to make a separate application and your eligibility will be dependent on the benefits that you receive.

Who is eligible?

You must be in receipt of one of the below benefits to be eligible for a Free School Meal for your child/children.

How do I apply?

You can register and find out if your child is eligible by visiting the Citizens Portal.   The system is quick and simple to use and can be accessed via a smartphone or handheld device. If you qualify, please show the Application Summary to your school on your smartphone or print a copy for your school.

Please register with the portal, even if you have applied and been unsuccessful in the past. By doing so we will have your contact details and can inform you straight away if your eligibility changes.

Free School Milk

From 1 January 2015, schools across England are legally required to ensure milk is made available during the school day to all pupils in receipt of free school meals. This is because milk is an important part of children’s diets.

At Holne Chase free milk is available to ALL children at lunchtimes.

Children are allowed unspillable water bottles in the classroom as long as they are used sensibly and only contain water. All classrooms have access to drinking water if needed.  Bottles must be taken home each evening so that they can be thoroughly washed.

Can we please request that parents do not send in any food items to school containing nuts as we have children with severe nut allergies.  Thank you for your co-operation.
