INFORMATION FOR PARENTS

Play.

At our school, playtime is a vital part of the day where children are given the freedom to explore, create and connect. We view the playground as an extension of the classroom – a dynamic environment where creativity, communication and social development are actively nurtured.
Through the use of games and open-ended equipment, children are encouraged to take ownership of their play. Loose parts such as crates, tyres, ropes and blocks allow pupils to build, invent and imagine without limits. This open-ended approach enables every child to engage at their own level, fostering creativity and problem-solving skills as they design their own games, structures and challenges.
Communication is at the heart of our playtimes. As children collaborate on shared ideas, they develop the ability to express themselves clearly, listen to others and negotiate roles. Whether they are agreeing the rules of a new game or working together to construct something meaningful, pupils are constantly practising spoken language and teamwork in authentic contexts.
Play also provides rich opportunities for children to develop essential social skills. They learn how to cooperate, take turns, resolve disagreements and show empathy towards others. Adults support this process through modelling positive interactions and guiding children when needed, helping them build resilience and confidence in their relationships.
Structured games are available alongside child-led play to ensure all pupils feel included and supported. These games promote fairness, participation and enjoyment, while also helping children who may need additional support to engage socially.
We are committed to providing a safe and stimulating environment where children feel confident to explore and take appropriate risks. Through careful supervision and clear expectations, children learn how to assess risk, make sensible choices and develop independence.
Ultimately, our approach to playtime reflects our belief that play is essential to children’s development. It supports wellbeing, enhances learning and helps every child grow into a confident, capable and socially aware individual.

Our Trust offers the region’s very best learning environments, opportunities and experiences, to staff and pupils in five schools (outstanding, good, new and improving) located in Northamptonshire and Milton Keynes.

Our unique blend of Fun, Creativity and Achievement, underpins everything we do to deliver high standards of education in all our schools, with brilliant schemes of learning creating real and lasting improvements. This year the percentage of children reaching the expected standard in reading, writing and maths was significantly higher in the Trust’s schools than nationally.

OUR STORY
A school for the whole family

A proactive member of the community in Bletchley since opening in 1952, we are a school for the whole family, with a committed and highly skilled teaching staff, led by brilliant new headteacher David Killick.

We believe learning is a partnership between home and school and, since joining Preston Hedges Trust, have transformed the early years provision to embed a ‘best practice’ reading scheme and prioritise learning through creative play.
